Sports Massage & Stretching

Sports massage services are geared specifically for those individuals who are physically active on a regular basis, are perhaps the weekend warrior types, or for those individuals who just live a physically demanding lifestyle.

Individuals who are active, either through work or "play," tend to become hurt or sore. These individuals are in need for a massage modality, which will help them maintain their active lifestyles, and recover faster. A sports massage on a regular basis will assist with the body's natural recovery process, thus speeding up healing as well as helping to prevent future injuries for those sore and stiff muscles.

Each sports massage session will incorporate a variety of massage techniques, which will be customized to the individual needs of the client to help them "feel better" faster, enabling them to get "back into the game" of life! A typical session might include traditional Swedish Massage, Myofascial Release, and Neuromuscular therapy techniques, as well as various stretching modalities such as static stretching, active range of motion, or active isolated stretching. Hot/cold therapy can also be applied as needed. In addition, Low Level Laser Therapy, ETPS and Kinso-Taping services are available, which are offered at an additional charge.

Sports Massage

Description of Modalities

Swedish: This basic massage modality incorporates long gentle strokes to increase blood flow to and from the muscles.

Myofascial Release: This technique involves slower and deeper pressure into the muscle tissue to assist in breaking up adhesions and scar tissue in the muscle.

Neuromuscular Release: This "point-specific" work targets those adhesions that restrict normal flow of the nervous system to the muscles.

Active Range of Motion: This stretching modality takes the individual through his or her normal range of motion to assist motor control and aids in the reduction of scar tissue.

Active Isolated Stretching: This stretching modality incorporates a process called reciprocal inhibition to stretch the muscle as well as increase kinesthetic awareness of the body.

Meridian Based Stretchng: These stretches are yoga based using meridian therapy. You remain in a posture for 3-5 minutes fully supported by props so as to relax completely. The purpose is to relax the connective tissures bringing blood flow to the area and increasing  circulation and flexibility of the joints. We learn what organs are being affected and where the energy is flowing by bringing breather and body together.

Kinesio-Taping: This specially designed tape helps to further prolong the t herapy session by either supporting or inhibiting the muscles causing the discomfort as well as speeding up the healing process by reducing inflammation.

ETPS: Short for Electro Therapeutic Point Stimulation is a non-invasive therapy used to treat acute and chronic pain by applying concentrated, low frequency stimulation to various points throughout the body to facilitate muscle relaxation and accelerate tissue repair.

Low Level Laser Therapy: Using a combination of low level laser energy and LED light to produce a wavelength to help assist healing and reduce inflammation. The wave lengths re-energize injured cell membranes allowing for better nutrition to reach the cell and form healthy new cells.

Heat / Cold Therapy: May be used to warm up the tissue, or reduce pain and inflammation, depending on the individual's needs.
